Job Description Job summary: To provide quality nursing care and support to ophthalmology clients throughout their surgical experience including pre, intra and postoperative care.Duties and Responsibilities:• Ensure instruments for procedures are available and sterile.• Scrubbing and assisting in various Ophthalmic procedures• Administering local anaesthesia, keeping it in safe custody, and documenting in the patient casebooks.• Assisting with procedures such as tests for glaucoma, cataracts, retinal scans etc.• Preparing patients for examinations by explaining procedures and providing instructions on how to behave during the examination.• Observing patients during examinations to ensure they follow instructions and are in good health.• Recording patient information including medical history, diagnosis, treatment plan, and progress.• Performing basic nursing tasks such as administering eye drops, giving eye exams, and cleaning equipment.• Documentation of key Issues in Theatre.• Educating patients, relatives and cleaners on health issues, such as cleanliness, diet and general hygiene.• Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time by the relevant authority.Qualifications, Skills and Experience:• Certificate in Nursing from a recognised Institution• Certificate in Ophthalmic Theatre Nursing is a must• Registration with Uganda Nurses’ and Midwives’ Council• Minimum of 1 year’s work experience in a similar setting• Excellent customer care skills• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
