Description/Synopsis:
Our client, a well-established international group within the agriculture, is seeking an experienced Chief Accountant to join their Uganda operation, based in Kampala
This key position supports the Finance Manager and leadership team, overseeing financial reporting, statutory compliance, and internal controls. The successful candidate will be a qualified CPA (or equivalent) with post-articles commercial experience, ideally gained in manufacturing or production-based environments.
Strong technical accounting knowledge, URA and tax experience, and prior exposure to external audit processes (Big Four or similar) are essential. The role requires a confident, detail-oriented professional who can lead a small finance team and ensure accuracy, compliance, and integrity across all accounting processes.
Minimum Requirements:
CPA (Uganda) or equivalent professional qualification (CA/ACCA)
Completed articles at a reputable firm (Big Four or mid-tier preferred)
5–10 years’ post-articles commercial accounting experience
Experience in the Manufacturing, Agriculture, Forestry, FMCG or Production industries
Strong technical accounting knowledge (balance sheet, fixed assets, journals)
Experience liaising with auditors and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)
Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems and Excel
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Main Responsibilities:
Manage financial accounting and reporting for the Uganda entity
Oversee reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
Prepare statutory returns and liaise with URA and tax practitioners
Support budgeting, cost control, and variance analysis
Supervise and mentor junior accountants and finance clerks
Partner with external auditors and ensure audit readiness
Maintain internal controls and financial governance standards
Support the Finance Manager in decision-making and reporting
